Frequently Asked Questions
What is Canine Assault Prevention or Occupational Dog-Bite Safety?
Canine Assault Prevention® is K9 University's dog-bite avoidance program. Where others in the industry focus on "dog-bite defense", we believe that there is much more gained in focusing on "prevention". Defending a dog-bite is the wrong position to be in; knowing enough to be able to prevent the incident will always yield a safer dog encounter.

Why does a company need this type of training?
If you're in a service or field based organization, and your employees are doing work in people's yards, or streets, the likelihood that they will run across a dangerous dog situation is very high. Other service personnel also include postal workers; delivery personnel; lawn maintenance; Veterinarian practices; etc... This means that it will require your employee to know how to avoid, or unfortunately defend a dog confrontation. A good education IS the first and most reliable line of defense when dealing with a dog assault.

What does a person use to defend themselves against a dog?
Knowledge first of all; supported by some dog common sense. A field worker needs to be equipped with sound dog defense knowledge. Information that can only be learned from actual class tutorial designed to teach the employee how to properly READ dogs. Once an employee is effective at reading dog aggressive behaviors, there will be very little need to defend themselves, since they will not be put in the position to defend an assault. This class also teaches that ANYTHING in your eyesight can be used as a toll to deter an assault.

Is there one breed of dog worst than another?
NO, if it has teeth, it can inflict pain and damage. All breeds are capable of biting, however, the breeds that typically get sited for more of the damage are the protective breeds. According to a Clifton study, pit bulls, Rottweilers, Presa Canarios and their mixes are responsible for 74% of all dog bites. However, we truly believe that focusing on one breed over another, is a sure way of getting bit, since your guard may be down with some dogs.

What does your program cost?
The cost of a good dog-bite prevention program varies due to the size of the organization. The program is typically tailored to fit the service organization, and due to many variables, it is hard to simply state a price. However, it is fair to state that the typical cost for the full program is usually lower than the accumulated cost for a single dog-bite injury. It is also fair to state that we are very competitive.
